How I landed a role on a Hollywood film
As fate would have it, my request to the universe to land a role on a Hollywood film was answered when my compadre, Blake McGrew, contacted me. He had been hired as an Art Department PA (production assistant) on a film that had started shooting here in Louisville, KY called Monumental. They needed additional people to come be a part of the Art Department team!
Now, I had never been a PA much less worked in the Art Department for a movie, however this was an opportunity to be on set with like minded individuals all working together to achieve a common goal: to create a Hollywood film, Monumental the movie. The pay was not that much considering that most days would be 12 hours or more. I didn’t care about that though. I was excited to be on set again and I agreed to the position!
Knowing the Right People
Through showing initiative, a willingness to learn, and knowing the right people, you too can get started in the film industry.
By knowing the right people, I was able to work with Production Designer Teri Whitaker who has a long history of beautiful work including commercials, music videos, and feature films. Based out of Los Angeles, Teri has designed several of Katy Perry’s music videos which I think is just awesome!
How Awesome Was It?
It was amazing being on set and using my talents to contribute to this film!!! Along the way, I was able to meet many of the movie’s actors and actresses including Jeremy Irons, Analeigh Tipton, Edi Gathegi, Chad Faust, Karan Soni, Maria Bello, and Alex Sharp among others. Everyone was super friendly and nice!
We turned a Bargain Hunt into the All Store, built a shopping cart pyramid, and even managed to shut down several blocks of Seventh Street for a day! Check out some pictures below of our time working on Monumental the movie. And to find out more about Monumental, please visit their imdb page.
